Momma Taught Me To Share......

But This Was Different!

Through the years, I have often laid low about my Christian Beliefs. Rather it be to look and appear "Cool" at school, or just because I simply doubted the reality of it. I hardly spoke of it to others. Besides those at the Churches I attended. It's like I was a double agent. Good Cop, Bad Cop. One way here. Another way there. As I began to mature in my walk, my LIFE with Christ, my spirit began to flow out of me.

I have been a part of Planning Yesterday now for 2 years. The past 2 years have been the greatest 2 years of my life. Or so I thought. Through all of the "Shows" and "Gigs". All of the camps and retreats. Nothing could have prepared me for Yesterday, April 9, 2009. I finally realized how important it is that we, IE. Planning Yesterday, and us as followers of Christ, to share Christ with others. I have never been one to initiate discussion about Christ. I have never just gone up to someone and said, "Hey there. Can I tell you about my Best Friend in the Whole world?"

Here's the deal. My boss at work has been in alot of pain and confusion over the past 2 weeks, involving her Daughter and the CPS investigating her family for Abuse to her. She has been looking to other things to get her mind off of it all. She is a genuine, and good person. She was just hurting so bad. My co-worker is a Christian too, so I had some........ Back-up, lets say. As I was about to ask her if she had thought to turn to God, she began to ask. To ask what can make it better. What can help her hurt. In the Hour to follow, we led her to an understanding of Gods Love, and plan for her life. We gave her a bible, to which she gladly accepted and began to read. This morning, she told me she had read it last night, not only alone, but also with her daughter. We planted a seed, gave it "Food, and Water"(the Bible), and are here to help it grow.

My prayer is that God will allow my Gifts, and talents to present themselves to others that need the Love of Christ. That he would you this ministry called, Planning Yesterday, to reach the lost and hurting. It has already begun. We have started the race. And now we allow Him to lead us on this path, to the finish line!

Hitting The Road

On the 2 year anniversary of Planning Yesterday, I am glad and excited to say that we are now going to be touring the United States under Vertigo records.

Okay. So that is a dream that we all have. To be touring under a label, and doing what we love all the time. That has not happened yet. But we have sent out press packs with all of our information, CD, photos, to at least 10 labels. With the hope of one of them picking us up, we continue to do what we do best. That’s rock faces off and change lives for the Glory of God. After our gear was stolen, we were all drawn to read the Book Of Job. It was as if God was showing us that our situation was under control. Under His control. You see, God allowed Satan to take everything from Job. His possessions. His family. His health. Only to see that Job would remain faithful to what God was doing. And through his faithfulness, Job was given ALL back to him, and more.

As the beginning of our “Tour” for 2009 has taken off, we have seen so many lives impacted by the love and grace of God. We have been instruments, and have seen the fruit of what God has done through us. We have plans, but God’s plans are greater than anything we could ever imagine. Yes, we want to be full time with the band. We don’t want to work for Alpha Pulmonary, Office Depot, Amerigas, anymore. Our passion is in worshiping our Father, and reaching the Lost as we are commanded to do by Him.

Sunday Bloody Sunday

On Sunday afternoon, January 25, 2008 we received a phone call and was informed that the garage where our band has been storing our gear had been looted sometime during the night. We have been blessed by the folks at New Bethel Assembly Of God by them allowing us free access to a trailer to transport our gear to gigs and a locked garage to store it in between shows. The Pastor pulled into the parking lot Sunday morning and noticed that there was a bicycle and an edger sitting in the open beside the garage. He decided to take a closer look and noticed that the side door to the garage had been forced open. He went inside and noticed that the door on the trailer was open too. As he looked in, he noticed that the trailer was almost empty.

So, here is the loss... about 5 guitars along with the electronic gear to make em' play. A brand new wireless unit for a bass guitar, all of our microphones, a brand new sound board, a custom made guitar strap (made by Corey’s Father), My drum microphones and my brand new Pearl Drum kit. Thankfully, we had removed 2 guitars, the bass and bass amp and two new speakers to use for practice for the upcoming show on Friday night in Keller and I have another drum kit that I can use, so the show will go on.

There was a silver lining though. The thieves left all of the lighting equipment, which was borrowed from another ministry, and a very expensive vintage guitar which was on loan from a close friend, which happens to have been in Corey's possession. So they won't need to replace someone else’s equipment, thank God.

While we are all saddened about the loss, we are reminded of the story of Job in the Bible. God allowed Satan to take all of his possessions and he even took his family away from him. But in the end, He restored all that was taken and even provided for an increase in Job's life.

The boy's are hurting right now and are really confused about how someone could do such a dirty thing, but they know that God is in control of the whole situation and that they now have the opportunity to trust in Him and witness His hand at work taking them to a higher level.

If you are looking for something fun to do this weekend, please consider coming out to our show at New Life Fellowship in Keller on Friday night. We have our brand spanking new CD and this is the first concert to celebrate it’s release. It would mean so much to us, ifwe had a packed house. We have been working really hard to prepare for this event and we need your support to help pull us through this set back.

GET UP AND FLY

It's been a rough several months. With the holidays happening, and not that many shows being played, there is light at the end of the tunnel.

2008 has come and gone. It brought with it a new 'Sound Wave" that smacked Planning Yesterday in the face! Those of you familiar with the older "Originals" you know the feel they had. The kinda folksy, pop, jams. A begining none the less. As Planning yesterday began to form, a new and stronger sound began to flow from its members. We are all drawn to the Rock of the late 60's early 70's. You know. Led Zepplin. Van Halen. Lynyrd Skynyrd. Etc. Etc. I could go on and on. Through the year, our sound, and style began to take shape. It began to uprise in us, and make us stronger musicians. It brought us closer together as brothers. We had an amazing first half of the year. And with HEB Camp, at which we were all filled with the spirit of God, God set us on a slingshot, and let us go. Our CD (An EP) had been worked on, and laid down in the studio, but wasn't quite done. After Camp, we hit the music hard. With a new passion, and drive, we completed our CD.

And Now..... It will be made available for You! 2009 promises to be bigger and better for Planning Yesterday! God is opening some awesome doors, which we are gladly and humbly walking through! We can hardly wait to be able to do this for the rest of our lives. The time is Near. Be Ready!

"The Gift"

It was cold. We knew it would be, but reality tends to sit in a little deeper than expected when the moment you have been preparing for actually arrives. The clock on the dash said 4:45am - we'd been driving for over an hour. Driving never seemed so difficult being on the closing end of a gig at 4:45am in the morning - but for some reason, the fact that our day was just beginning made all the difference...

We pulled up to the Dallas Convention Center and began looking for the stage that our hosts had set up for us the night before. Three times, four times, fifth time full circle - the location of our event eluded our vision. We had made lap after lap around the center looking for this spot - but found nothing to fit its description. It didn't help that our guide was still asleep at home courtesy of an alam clock set wrong.

We parked our vehicles and trucked by foot through the cities old cemetery which had grown concrete life around it that never slept. After crossing the headstones and climbing a few hundred steps, we found our stage of glory. It stood all of about 4inches from the ground and covered a space of about 10ft by 14ft. It was located near the entrance of the Convention Center which had accumulated a crowd of about 50 homeless bodies waiting for the days events to unfold.

We found our way back past the dead remains to our illegally parked vehicles to begin the dreaded unloading process. This part of any gig is always dreaded - but 30 below can make anything worse. We piled as much as we could on our four wheel cart and our 2 trustworthy furniture dollies - and proceeded to push them about 100 yards to our destination of the day. Back and forth, trip after trip, we lugged our instruments and our sound equipment to the stage. Each trip at least one of us was approached and asked if we needed help - by those who needed it more. Kindly we declined and they went on their way.

As we prepared for the event, lining the stage with our gear, the homeless bodies that had gathered began to speak - to encourage us and lift us up with words of thanks. Even before we hit our first note, they were fans - simply because we were there. As the sound of drum beats began to fill the "cement jungle" - the bodies became intrigued. As soon as Cody finished his set up and sound check , a crowd of spectators had already begun to form. Among the ocean of sounds surrounding us - waves of bass notes started to flood the spaces in between. The sounds of "Sweet Emotion" began to echo from Kyle's bass. At the drop of a hat - the bodies were hooked. They wanted more - they needed more.

David started warming up his fingers on his guitar, chilling the air just a little more with his sound check. Everything began to come clear as the sun began to rise, adding just a little warmth to the day. By the time we got set up, about 150 bodies began to fill the pre-set lines for those in need. All kinks out, we began our full sound check. After about a minute of sound checking, Cody had already broke 3 sticks. The cold bitter air was so thick it had brittled the wood of the sticks to their core. How much more brittle were the bodies before us?

We finished up with our sound bytes, but the bodies wanted more. They began to compliment us, begging for more. Due to the scheduling of the day, we weren't to play until 9am. It was hard to say no at the time, while looking into their eyes of need. It was our gift to them - but it would have to wait.

Our time spent leading up to us playing was filled with a lot of thoughts and emotions. As the lines began to grow, our emotions took us over. The realization that more and more were coming in hit our souls hard. We stood back as we saw the crowds begin to love on one another. Some obviously acquainted by previous engagements - some just meeting for the first time. They were holding conversations with each other - as friends; as family. The volunteers began to register those there for items such as clothing, bedding, toiletries, and food items. The convention center was set up with several stations where those there could get medications, vaccinations, hair cuts, and entertainment. The bodies waited patiently. Never arguing; simply waiting.

The time had come for us to take the stage. After being led in worship by an east Texas youth band, and led in Christmas carols by an amazing Choir made up of 12-16 year olds, we hit our first note. From start to finish, our momentum was strong. Our playing was tight. And our hearts were out for all to see. Gods love began to pierce the cold air, and started to warm those that started gathering in front of us. A crowd of about 120 had formed, rocking out with us. Their curiosity got the best of them and before too long, they were bobbing their heads, and loosing themselves in what God ordained to be a very humbling, heart felt time of serving.

Music dripped from our fingers. We laid it all on the floor in an honest effort to share who we were with the crowd. We had played these songs a million times - but it seemed as though they had been written for this day alone. Every note, every lyric - they all connected. Notes were played with an entirely different feeling - and the lyrics were sung with a completely different story. We marched to a different beat that day - we had to. Each song drew us closer with the bodies. Each story we told linked us to those who stood listening. They responded each in a different way as to say - that's my story you are telling. Each one different - every one the same.

Then it happened. As if it had always been - and we never saw the change. The bodies had faces. The faces had eyes; smiles; souls. For the first time that day - the bodies were people. It was so easy to dismiss them as numbers early in the day - and it was better that way. Now they all had names - they all had stories - they all had hearts; and their hearts took a toll on ours.

We had come to give the homeless bodies a Christmas party. To give them "things" they otherwise didn't have. We never expected to encounter people.

Things are fragile. They can be lost, stolen - forgotten. A whirl wind encompassed our thoughts. Why were we here? Doctors were giving "things" - as short lived as those things were, they would leave with these people and stay with them a short while. How long would the music last? A week? A day? Or would it even last them till the night? We had to give them something they could keep; something they could call their own. So we did.

We stepped out on faith. The connection between us was strong. They had trusted us into their world - they had let us share in their life. Would that connection be enough to share our life with them?

As the music faded - and the veil was lifted - we opened our hearts and told them about the wonders of God. There were no fancy words. There was no worship band to set the mood. The lights were not dimmed. We told about God for who He was - and who He would always be - and as graceful as we could - we proposed. We presented the ultimate gift...eternal life.

Without hesitation, hands began to raise all around us. 5, 10, 15, 20...all around us - choices were being made, lives were being changed. We closed our set out with worship to the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords - and then we left.

There was a different air about the place as we stepped off stage. What once was a cold concrete jungle was now a warm sanctuary filled with the presence of the Almighty. All in all, there were approxiamtely 8,000 homeless people in attendance. There was no way to know how many people accepted Jesus that day. All we knew for sure was that God was made real - and that we were yet again humbled to be a part of His great commission.

We packed our things and rolled back to our vehicles. In the time between, we met face after face that was once attached to the bodies we had so easily dismissed at the start of it all. The faces now had names. Joe, Greg, Thursday, Akisha – and the names had life. We were told how much we were appreciated. All the way from the simple fact that they never heard live music anymore – to the start of their new lives because of our endeavor – we were appreciated.

We came to give – we never knew we would leave with so much…

We encourage you – find a way to give from your heart this season. Give in a way that will make a difference. Meet the need of some one this season – and give in a way that will affect you.

More so - take more opportunities to give the greatest gift of all – Jesus Christ. It's a gift that keeps on giving, and Christmas is not its bounds.

God's word says in Psalm 40:10 "I do not hide your righteousness in my heart; I speak of your faithfulness and salvation. I do not conceal your love and your truth from the great assembly."

We challenge you to fall suit. Do not hide God. Let your life shine with His goodness and grace – abounding in love – forever.

Have a Merry Christmas, and we'll see you at the show!

The Boys

"When the music fades, and all is stripped away - and I simply come. Longing just bring, something that's of worth - that will bless Your heart. I'll bring You more than a song, for a song in itself, is not what You have required. You search much deeper within - through the way things appear - You're looking into my heart. I'm coming back to the heart of worship - where it's all about You, it's all about You Jesus. I'm sorry Lord for the thing I've made it - when it's all about You - it's all about You Jesus..."

What A Ride

So we have been so busy with preparing for our first CD (an EP) to be released. They are being printed and packaged as I type, and I can hardly wait to see the finished product. We stayed really busy over the summer. Thanks to YOU! Our Fans!! We had so many great shows that ended in Salvation's! Thank You Jesus!! Many, many re-dedications as well. That is our mission. To bring others to Christ. Our music is just a tool to do so. We are taking the "Winter Months" to write new material, and perfect songs we already have.

Another adventure took place for the band. Our lead guitarist, David, decided to tie the knot, and get hitched! That's right. That makes me the only single guy in the band. YES! It was a quiet little wedding. Nothing too big. No flashing lights, smoke, or guitar solo's. Just a big decision made to spend the rest of your life with someone so special.

Business is picking up for us. We have alot of things planned for you. We are getting things in place to be able to promote ourselves a little better. That's right. We have no label backing us up, so we are doing this on our own. Our blood, sweat, and tears are going into this thing called Planning Yesterday, every day. We don't ask for much in return. Just love. We are a ministry, and that's what we will always be. You guys help us keep doing what we do.

With that said, we are in need. Our growth as musicians has led to physical growth. Our last show was a testament to how true that is. We could barely fit our equipment in our trailer. That's right. We have out-grown it! New Bethel AG Church is allowing us to use it, as often as it is available. A Big thanks to them. BUT.... we need a bigger trailer. If anyone knows where we might get one, let us know. You can message us on my space. www.myspace.com/planningyesterdaytheband or you can E-Mail us at planningyesterday@gmail.com

Remember...... Without YOU..... It's Just A Really Long Sound check!

In The Begining....

GOD CREATED THE HEAVENS AND PLANNNING YESTERDAY!

There was a time in my life when I thought, "God. What do you have for me?" I'm sure that most of us, if not all of us have had that thought, or a thought like that, go through our minds. What is our life going to amount to in the end? I can't possibly begin to try to answer that question for anyone, let alone myself.

In the past 18 months, my life has consisted of 3 things. Sleeping. Eating. and being a part of an amazing band, Planning Yesterday. Now with the occasional shower thrown in, and studio time squeezed in somehow, I have managed to press on. To juggle my life in my hands, when all along my life is in Gods hands. He is GOOD!

As of October 4th, our first EP has been completed. We spent many hours in the studio, but much less than most. Crystal Clear Studios has been amazing. Kent, the engineer is the BOMB! In just 24 total hours in the studio, we have a completed project. How many other groups can say that? Exactly. The plan is to send it to as many Record Labels as possible, and Pray that God places it where He will recieve the most Glory for it.

Continue to pray for us, and be encouraged that you are truly helping us. Just 4 "Jo Shmoe's" doing what we love, and loving God while doing it. Keep an eye out for us. And an ear.
